It reminded me a little bit of the 1964 cover of A Hard Day's Night. If only the little mustachioed man had made different funny faces, like the Beatles did! Unfortunately all the little heads have the same vaguely unhappy look. You'd think that the Woodbury's would have cheered him up a bit.Ad image from the Ivory Project.
A Hard Day's Night image is from Jeff's Picasa album (link is in title).

The disembodied heads are very freaky! Would not make me buy Woodbury's soap, but maybe others love it? There is a huge population of disembodied heads that are not being served, and Woodbury's has finally addressed that population :)
Amanda - Very true! And I had thought that disembodied heads only really came into their own (as it were) in mid-20th century ads ;)
It's soapy psychedelia!
Mind you, I'd probably use that soap if it guaranteed me such a magnificent 'tache.
Hey, disembodied heads have been selling us their wares for eons. Just look at Colonel Sanders! That floating head sold us chicken and heart disease and we ate it up. Such fools were we...
Richard - Well, yes, that would be an incentive (though not for women so much). I wrote about a little Victorian ad for a mustache curler, about a year ago. It was a tiny ad in a theatrical newspaper, with a cute little picture.
mike - That's true...I must say KFC has always horrified me, though. Always. Don't get me started!
It almost looks like someone just made a potato stamp and went to town. The little heads don't quite have the variety of expressions that the Beatle faces do.
Floating heads are spooky!
The SnackHound - It does look like that!
Hairball - These ones are, a little, yes. I like the Beatles cover though. And actually I like this ad too, even so :)
Hi
Great post and it reminded me a little bit of the 1964 cover of A Hard Day's Night.
