Missing His Sense of Kruschen

Heavens - what a dreadful gloomer
'Kruschenize' - get back your humour.

You may notice a theme in the old ads for various medicinal salts - when you take them, you will be very happy, and when you do not, well, you are so terribly grumpy that you can go to the theater (let us say) and not find it a bit funny. Because your insides need Kruschenizing, that's why. Imagine having friends who interpreted your inner drama critic as gastrointestinal malaise! Who are these friends, anyway?

Maybe the play really just isn't all that funny. The man with the coffee at the bottom of the ad weighs in with a second opinion, below. He has put Kruschen in his cup, and both he and the vapors arising from said cup look positively sinister.

On a similar note, Dave Till found a truly frightening 1931 ad which proves that Kruschenizing can lead not only to excessive giggling, but can turn you into a maniac.

From the Hamilton Spectator (Hamilton, Ontario), 1926. And you can still buy Kruschen Salts, see here.

For more salty medicinals, you can go over to Kitchen Retro and have a look at these amazing products:

Inner Saltiness
Before and After Fruit Salt
Mother Always Uses Andrews Liver Salt

Later this week, along with shorter museum interludes:

The Mysterious Tomb

Walking On the Ceiling

Ahhh, yes, the old salts.
They must have known there was something in it really as Lithium, for Bi Polar/Manic Depression, is a type of salt... but not the sort of fling willy nilly on your steak and chips.

Dear me, Lidian!
Two things come to mind when I read the word KRUSCHENIZE:
(a.) the late Soviet potentate Nikita Sergeyevich ["We will bury you!!"] Khrushchev;
(b.) and the medieval English word "grucche" - - example: he gan to grucche a me [i.e., he started to get on my case].

Which one of you wants to start a product called GRUCCHE-enize, which will help individuals cope with complainers and lick-spittles?

Lidian, I can take a hint. I'm gone gone gone! :-D

Now, this is news to me. I've always soak in a tub of Epsom salts when I've had a hard day of gardening, but never have I heard of consuming medicinal salts. I could absolutely go for some excessive giggling.

I guess that's what was wrong with those old man Muppets that were always complaining up in the balcony. They must not have had their Kruschen Salts.

Cue the geezers: "That joke was great, Heather."

"Yeah, a great big waste of time!"

"HAHAHAHAHAHA [old man puppet laughter]"

Me-Me - Epsom salts are good, and so is excessive giggling - but I've never found any salt especially funny...

Max - Good to have you here! I like that Slog-a-Bite game too, and will have to pay you a visit as well.

Heather - They really DO like like those Muppet old guys, lol!

Look like, not like like, that is...

Memo to Heather Cherry:

The two geezer Muppets who sat in the box and mocked the performance went by the names of Statler and Waldorf.

And, come to think of it, could have used a good dose of the old Kruschen Salts every morning. (Or would Crazy Water Crystals have been more apropos?)

Heather Cherry said...

Thanks, Exaggerator. I never knew their actual names!

Lidian said...

Exaggerator - Thanks, like Heather I did not know those guys' names...

Heather - I never kept up with the Muppets after the early 70s, and even then I only knew the basic ones. I was NOT so fond of them when I had to endure them in the early 90s with small children (I probably should not say that, but it is true! True I tell you!)

Those old guys were OK though. Too bad one of them was not called Kruschen.
