The little poem at the bottom reads:
Gotham's King David has nobody hurt,
He emblazons his banners with hope,
And drives from our midst the Goliath of dirt
By sending amongst us Prize Soap.
Try it. You'll like it.
Maybe David should just take Goliath over to Mrs. Vanderveer's Bathing Pavilion instead of lobbing cakes of soap at him. Just a thought...
Tomorrow, a mysterious tomb at Greenwood Cemetery in Brooklyn - so mysterious, in fact, that I don't quite know what to make of it. I'll let you know what I know so far on Wednesday...

I've always enjoyed advertisements from the past. I noticed the closing tag line, "Try It, You'll Like It", is the same tag Alka Seltzer used in the early 70's. Everything old is new again.
Me-Me - Thank you!!! I was trying to think of which product used that same tagline in the 60s/70s! Of course...Now I can get on with the rest of my day - it was driving me absolutely crazy! :)
I guess the Prize Soap peeps decided it wasn't a very good marketing strategy to depict the chopping off of Goliath's head portion of the story. Wonder why?
I left you a little something over on my blog...
We're going to assume that there's a bar of soap on Goliath's face, having been slung there by David, rather than the creepier option of Goliath's face having been *replaced* by a bar of soap.
Heather - They were mighty sharp, those Victorian advertising agents...
And thank you!
Margie and Edna - That was the ad before they did the final edit, maybe.
haha wow. Ads were pretty violent.
Sandi - Oh, they were full of surprises, those Victorians!
Would the soap get the blood out of the carpet after the beheading though?
Now that's the big question! :P
• • Gotham's Queen Lidian keeps readers alert!
• • If she didn't blog, we would mope.
• • She drives through our midst with "peculiars" and mirth.
• • Oh, what's in her NEXT envelope?

• • Come up and see Mae — — tee-hee, tee-hee.
Jayne - They would probably say, yes it does get the blood out, it is after all Prize Soap. But I am thinking it won't!
Mae - You are an excellent poet, and very sweet too! I am wondering what is in that next envelope myself. And I am going to come up and see you, right now, Miss West.
I recently came accross your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I dont know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog. I will keep visiting this blog very often.
