A 1930s Take on the Fashions of 2000

Here's what some 1930s people imagined we'd be wearing in the year 2000. It is very funny, especially some of the women's skyscraper hairstyles. The portable phone isn't a bad guess, although men carrying them don't tend to dress up like Prince Valiant on Halloween. And the aluminum dress probably has been done by European designers. There were paper dresses in the 1960s, after all.

Tomorrow: alligators all around!

Hey that one designer had it almost right, except for the electric belt contraption (though some people may like to wear those now).

"It's the sleeves what does it."

"Ooh! Swish!"

That narrator is AWESOME.

I think they channeled Madonna with the metal breast protectors. Or is it the other way around?

There's a Prince & the Pauper story lurking here. The guy at the end has a twin who sells peanuts & beer at the ballfield.

Nick - You're right - and the electric belts are really more of a retro fashion, as in 19th century retro...I have a few electric-belt ads to post, re my ongoing electr0-magnetic Victoriana obsession.

Heather - He really IS an excellent narrator! :)

Sandi - It's good to have a laugh, certainly every day is good but Wednesdays really demand it I think! :)

Darth CalenwasMom - I wonder if Madonna got inspired by this clip??

Matt - That was a good moment.

Bill - There sure is. We'll have to write it up one of these days!

Greetings Lidian,
This was great! Gotta love those curly-cue breastplates. I especially like the narrator's comment about the lightbulb on the headpiece to help the woman of 2000 find an honest man! LOL!

I liked the 1930's era fanny pack.

I love it! Thanks for sharing!

I especially like the headlight. I wear one just like it all the time.

LOL
Love it!
I send The Spouse in that outfit all the time :P

Boy am I glad I don't have to try and do those hairdo's. I'm lucky to brush mine some mornings LOL!

The predictions were only about 20 years off in my opinion. If the gentleman's outfit was a bright florescent it could pass for something from the 1980s, lol.

It's pretty amazing how they got some things right! :0)

Have a great day,

Looking4Ancestors - A headlight ain't gonna help, though.

Da Old Man - I did too. And that he was carrying candy around in it.

Kirsten - That headlight would come in handy when I am looking in our closets.

Jayne - Well it is a classic look!

Aftercancer - So am I. And I wouldn't want to sleep on a block of wood to keep my hair looking like that, either.

Jeff - Yes indeed, and as Da Old Man points out, the stylish fanny pack is the perfect 80s accessory!

Sher - It is, actually! I wonder how we would do predicting what people will be wearing 70 years from now?
